1. What This Website Is

This is a privately run reference resource, independent of every government office. It does not hold official criminal records, retrieve files on a visitor's behalf, conduct an official background check, or submit documents for another person.

Its function is to direct readers to the custodians of Mathews County records. Those custodians include the Sheriff's Office, the local court clerks, and the Virginia Department of State Police Criminal Justice Information Services Division's Central Criminal Records Exchange, known as CCRE. It also points to the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry and to outside research tools. The Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Virginia Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., does not turn restricted CCRE histories into an anonymous public name database.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, you agree not to:

• Use the website in violation of federal, Virginia, or local law
• Threaten, stalk, or harass a person with information obtained here
• Rely on the content for hiring, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
• Attempt to enter systems or areas without authorization
• Send bots, scrapers, or other automated tools through the pages
• Interfere with site performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

You may not use material found here or through a linked tool to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may also violate criminal law. Special limits apply to the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Virginia Code § 9.1-918 prohibits unauthorized use and unlawful intimidation or harassment, and a willful violation is a Class 1 misdemeanor. Public registry data is provided for safety awareness. It is not permission for vigilantism, blacklisting, or unlawful discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Mathews County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. It does not create consumer reports, credit reports, or background checks. Its advertising partners are not presented as services for applicant screening, rental review, insurance pricing, or credit assessment. You agree that neither website content nor data from a linked tool will be used to:

• Make a hiring or termination decision
• Evaluate a prospective renter or housing applicant
• Assess credit or calculate an insurance premium
• Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
• Carry out any other FCRA-regulated purpose

Anyone who needs a legally authorized check for one of those purposes must use an appropriate official process through Virginia State Police CCRE or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

The material is general information, not legal advice. Descriptions of Mathews County records cannot determine how a charge, conviction, warrant, sealing law, or expungement under Virginia Code § 19.2-392.2 applies to a specific person. Eligibility and procedure depend on the case outcome, history, and current law. Consult a lawyer licensed in Virginia for advice about an individual matter.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." No promise is made that:

• Information will always be accurate, complete, or up to date
• Access will remain continuous or uninterrupted
• The pages will contain no bugs, errors, or security flaws
• A partner search result will be complete or correct

Criminal-record status can change when charges are filed or dismissed and when a court seals or expunges qualifying material. CCRE dissemination is also limited by Virginia Code § 19.2-389, while juvenile and other protected files may not be publicly available. Delays and omissions can occur. Treat no content here as an official statement from the Mathews County Sheriff, a court clerk, Virginia State Police, or any other government body.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to the Mathews County Sheriff's Office, Virginia court systems, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or independent search services. Following a link takes you to a service outside our control. We do not accept responsibility for an outside provider's content, privacy practices, prices, availability, or data handling. Review that provider's own terms before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code are owned by Mathews County Criminal History or its content partners. You may not reproduce, distribute, alter, or create derivative material from that content without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for damages arising from access to or use of this website. That limitation includes harm tied to a decision based on material found here or through an outside service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against a claim, demand, or legal proceeding caused by your use of the website or your breach of these conditions. This duty includes reasonable legal fees and related expenses.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms. Any dispute arising from use of the website must be brought in a court located in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these conditions at any time. A revised version becomes effective when it is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

We may restrict or terminate access at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in force. The affected language will be modified only to the extent required to make it enforceable.
